The character Mahakala has been borrowed from the Tibetan Buddhist
tradition. He is a fierce manifestation, who helps to conquer all
negative elements of existence. In this western province of China
bordering Tibet, there is an exchange of materials and ideas,
illustrated in this Daost appropriation of a Buddhist deity.
