Robert Brundage has been collecting Himalayan ritual and tribal art for over twenty years. During that time Nepal & Tibet have provided a fascinating array of Himalayan art; sculptures, masks and jewelry that tell the story of life in the Himalayas.

The Himalayan region is populated by ethnographic groups that often integrate Buddhist, Hindu and animistic concepts into a unique amalgam. In remote parts of Nepal offerings of incense and prayers were made at primitive shrines to placate powerful mountain gods that protected villages, crops and animals from malevolent spirits that could cause disease or calamity if neglected. Familiar animistic themes of protection and abundance were expressed through enigmatic rituals that often included the use of masks and sculpture.

Tibetan Buddhist ritual art has also integrated many indigenous animistic themes and retains numerous symbolic elements from ancient pre-Buddhist shamanic traditions.

Over the years I have assembled a unique collection of high quality antique tribal masks, ancestral sculpture and related material from the Himalayas that is increasingly difficult to find today.

Himalayan Tribal Art is a somewhat obscure area that is not widely known, however it does have a growing following of enthusiastic collectors.
