MARION HAMILTON

Antiques and Ethnographica

On Thursday, February 2, our good friend and colleague
Marion Hamilton died peacefully at home.

Marion spent her 89 years living a remarkable life.

While attending Dominican University, she met and married William Hamilton III and began a life of adventure. They raised two children, John and Susan, in Africa, South America, and California.

Professionally, in the 1970s, Marion became Director of the Davis Arts Center. In the 1990s, Marion created an antique and ethnographic gallery in Winters, California. For the last 20+ years, Marion has been a dealer of antique ethnographic art and pursued her love of creating jewelry.

In addition to her family and many friends, Marion was passionate about ancient beads, ethnographic art, and travel, visiting over 80% of the world’s countries. Marion loved creating fabulous necklaces augmented with beads collected from her travels. She was known for her wit and great sense of fun, a lively, inquiring intelligence, a plucky and adventurous spirit, and her kindness and generosity.

Marion was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and her son, John. Survived by her daughter Susan Hamilton, grandchildren Lily Starling and Emma Johnson and her spouse Ben Johnson, William Pfanner and his spouse Frankie Pfanner, and great-grandchildren Michael and Phoebe Johnson.

A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 24.
