A rare court mask depicting the now extinct Balinese tiger painted with crushed stone pigments and gold gilt. This tiger form of the mythical protector barong is known to guard a village from malevolent ghosts. The  last Balinese tiger was seen in 1937 but remains present in traditional folklore Tantri tales to this day.
