Tribal art, as I broadly define it, includes the arts of any group of people, be they European, African, Native American, etc. Each group’s artifacts have their own identifying characteristics by reason of use, materials available, and tradition. Following through on this idea, I have collected items from many corners of the earth with a special interest in beads for jewelry design.

I have TEXTILES from China, Central Asia, Indonesia, Peru and Bolivia; TERRACOTTAS from the Indus Valley, Persia, Africa; ancient BEADS from Afghanistan, Mesopotamia, Turkey and Egypt: FURNITURE and DEVOTIONAL pieces from the Spanish Colonial period in Latin America. Societies are broadly defined by their material culture and so become an intriguing window into understanding our differences and our similarities.
