Northwest Coast, probably Tlingit
Wood and pigment
6” Tall x 2 3/4” Wide
Early 20th century
Depicting a bear over a frog. We especially like the clever way the bared teeth are stylistically carved. In the typical Northwest Coast traditional colors of red and black. This piece appears to be by the same hand as another comb in our collection. A strikingly similar comb that was auctioned by Sotheby’s in 2015 for $5,000 can be seen here.
