Dog/Frog Vessel, Peru – SOLD

Dog/frog vessel
Huari/Moche culture, North Coast Peru

A shape-shifting crouching dog/frog in reddish brown and cream painted earthenware with a flared mouth rising from the center of the back. Unusual is the rear view, which is rather San Pedro cactus-like and possibly alludes to shamanic associations. Reminiscent of Moche pieces. Intact. Ex. private collection, Iowa, ex.
