This is a very rare object, the only one of its type that we have seen in over thirty-five years.
Retour d’Angola, an exhibition of Angolan ethnographic objects was held at the Musée d’ethnographie de Neuchâtel in 2010.
The catalog shows baskets of this form, carried by women on their heads, in photographs taken during the 1932-33 expedition to Angola.
Photos are by Charles Emile Thiebaud and Theodore Delechaux who headed the expedition.
