An apron, podia, traditionally worn by married women of the Sarakatsani, a formerly nomadic tribe of northern Greece. The central area is usually cross-stitched, but this example has a colorful glass beaded motif surrounded by gold-colored rick-a-rack and a zig-zagged gold ribbon. A band of black wool is bordered by another row of gold-colored ribbon, finished with two bands of black wool. A short black wool tie, with metal hooks at the ends, are stitched to each corner to secure apron to another garment. Evidence of long ago moth activity verso.
