Small Headhunter’s Axe
Bontoc People, Northern Luzon, Philippines
Wood, metal
Early 20th Century
17 cm / 6.7 in x 15.25 cm / 6 in
Small axes are very rare, this is the only one I have seen in person. It follows the form of a larger, classical headhunter’s axe and as such could serve multiple purposes: teaching a child about weapons or a useful tool for harvesting rice. The blade and handle are well used.
