This large, finely detailed kashigata mold is in the shape of the auspicious tai (sea bream) and was used to make sweets for special celebrations. It is a double-sided two-part mold into which the paste was pressed and allowed to dry. These are more commonly made so that one side is flat, but this is an unusual full three-dimensional version.
