A depiction of Raven the Trickster stealing the sun for humanity. Combining geometric and representational shapes, with a bold use of color, the Kwakiutl people transmitted traditions through symbolic design crests identifying their tribe’s status and heredity. Button Blankets were important ceremonial shoulder coverings and given as gifts at potlatches.
