An ancestor figure forms the handle of this excellent example of a taro or sago pounder. It has a rich, dark patina from age, use and smoke. Repaired.
Koil Island has a fairly small population of approximately 500. There is little information readily available about the island which is one of six main islands in the Schouten group.
