A functional part of a loom, these pulleys allow thread to feed into a heddle in a way that separates the layers of thread being woven. This enables the shuttle to move through them and create a textile. Finely carved heddle pulleys were signs of distinction as perceived by people watching the weaver in action.

Heddle pulleys from Burkina Faso are rare compared to the number of those originating from the Ivory Coast.
