This magical garment, a masterpiece of African fiber art, is laden with talismans and symbolic materials reflecting the status, reputation and skill of the great hunter who wore it on ceremonial occasions. The ritual charms, hidden within the dimensional texture of fibrous cords, conferred protection on the wearer. Strip woven. hand spun, native cotton, natural dye; cowries; animal horn, teeth and hide; embossed leather stones, herbs, seeds?; feather; mirror; glass.
