Early kilims are esteemed for their strong graphics and fabulous natural dye colors. This pattern is often called Elibelinda “Hands on Hips Design” which is associated with the Mother Goddess iconography, with “Ram’s Horn” motif being an alternative interpretation. Turkish kilims tend to be made in two panels and joined up the center however early complete pieces are seldom seen. There are several theories for this, including the idea that they never were put together in former times but were displayed in half lengths as seen here to line for warmth and decoration of their dwellings. #11454
