Power Figure, Kusu People, D.R. Congo

Power Figure
Kusu people, D.R. Congo
Circa: 1st quarter, 20th century
Provenance: Grove Gallery 1980, New York
Height: 23” / 58cm

Due to its relatively large size, this figure was most likely a community protective figure which served to protect a village against evil and misfortune. Its origin is undetermined by me, but I am told it is from the Bangu Bangu/Northern Hemba/Kusu region of the Congo (Kinshasa).
