A fine old Simbai war shield from the Torricelli Mountains, Madang Provence. The surface carving is raised and shows a good dark patina from age and use. The back has large adze marks as seen on the older examples, possibly carved without metal tools. Previously in the collection of David Rosenthal, CA / Paris.
