A classic Ifugao or Bontok shield with rattan bindings and dark smokey patina from age and storage. Carved from a single piece of palm wood with woven rattan bands to stop the shield from splitting. These shield were often stored in small smokey huts where they acquired a dark smoky surface that helped keep the bugs away.
